Meet Our Doctors
DR. MATTHEW YUEN, DDS
Dr. Matthew Yuen grew up in Alameda, CA. He has an older sister and two younger brothers and loves his niece and nephew. He played almost every sport and growing up wanted to become a professional baseball player.
Pro sports weren’t in the cards for Dr. Yuen, so he went to UC Davis and majored in Exercise Biology and minored in Technology Management through the UC Davis Graduate School of Management. He gained experience working in dental offices for a couple years before attending the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in San Francisco. Upon earning his D.D.S. degree, Dr. Yuen also completed a General Practice Residency at the McClellan VA serving veterans. Dr. Yuen has a passion for learning and education and has tutored microbiology, physiology, pre-clinical dental technique, and most of all helped teach the anatomy course at UC Davis and in dental school at the graduate level. In order to continue staying up to date on the best techniques and materials to providing the best possible patient care, he takes hundreds of hours of Continuing Education courses each year. He has been on several overseas dental missions trips and volunteers whenever he can in community service events. Dr. Yuen strives to provide gentle, comprehensive care for patients to make them comfortable in the dental office and to treat them like family.
Outside of work, Dr. Yuen can be found refining his barbecuing skills or spending time with his wife-they don’t have any children (yet) but are hoping to move in that direction. He loves all things Disney, is an avid reader, plays any sport when he has the chance (mainly tennis, grew up playing over at Palomares Hills!), and enjoys exploring the outdoors.
Favorite things to watch: Jurassic Park, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, It’s a Wonderful Life, Back to the Future, Any Disney/Pixar, The Office
Favorite authors/books: Timothy Keller, Malcolm Gladwell, Atul Gawande, Ender’s Game, Harry Potter series, Wayside School series, any children’s book
Favorite places to be: Disneyland, UC Davis, Zion National Park, Monterey Bay Aquarium, in Seattle with extended family, on a couch at home with a book
Favorite things to eat: In-n-Out, Costco food court, any type of curry, Reese’s candies
DR. AVA CHEN, DDS
Kind and well-respected, Dr. Ava Chen graduated from UCLA with a bachelor’s degree in Biology. She went on to earn her dental degree from the University of California, San Francisco School of Dentistry.
Dr. Chen has been practicing dentistry since 1999. She lives and works in the Castro Valley and actively volunteers for local schools and communities.
When she’s not taking care of patients, Dr. Chen enjoys traveling with her husband and three children. She also likes to read and spend time gardening.
STEPHANIE
TREATMENT COORDINATOR
Stephanie started her career as a dental assistant over 10 years ago; with her years of clinical clinical knowledge, she eventually transitioned to the front office as a treatment coordinator. When she is not helping patients achieve their dental goals she enjoys spending her free time with her dog Chase, camping, and exploring. Stephanie is an avid fisherwoman; you can find her most weekends next to the lake with her nose in a book and a line in the water. Side from that she enjoys crafting and baking cookies for her family and friends. She likes go explore new mexican restaurants, and is on the hunt for the best Al Pastor tacos..Aside from that she enjoys crafting and baking cookies for her family and friends. OLIVIA
SCHEDULING COORDINATOR
Olivia has over 10 years of front office experience in dental offices. She started as a receptionist, treatment coordinator, biller/ insurance and now is an expert on all of the above. Olivia was born and raised in the Bay Area. She is all about good vibes and likes to collect energy crystals, make candles using natural oils, and trying new cooking recipes (she loves sea food!). Most of all, Olivia enjoys traveling with her son-she recently took him to Hawaii for the first time for a very memorable experience. On her days off she likes drinking tea and relaxing. Her goal is to do her best to help everyone smile however she can!
KASIA
DENTAL HYGIENIST
Kasia has been working in dentistry for about 33 years; started as an assistant, after a while went back to school and became a Dental Hygienist (20 years now).
Kasia enjoys her time with patients talking about their dental needs, also about their lives and experiences. She loves to travel, read (especially historical novels), gardening, and spend time with her family and friends. Kasia has been married for 36 years and has 2 adult sons.
LUCY
DENTAL HYGIENIST
Lucy S. Arrayga, a native of the Bay Area born and raised in Oakland, CA, is a graduate of California State University, East Bay, with a degree in Health Science. Lucy received her dental hygiene training at Diablo Valley College and has been a practicing registered dental hygienist for over 15 years. She is a member of the East Bay Dental Hygiene Society and the California Dental Hygiene Association.
Lucy has been married for almost 25 years and has three beautiful sons. She indulges in her embarrassing guilty pleasure of reality TV and balances the silliness with PBS timepieces such as Downton Abbey, The Crown, and Belgravia. She loves to travel to tropical fun beach locations with friends and family, large ship cruising, and enjoys amusement parks in her free time.
KYLA
DENTAL ASSISTANT
Kyla has been a dental professional for over 18 years, she has worked here in this practice for 17. Kyla has made it a goal of hers to grow and learn and stay current with the latest technology. She loves to help her patients smile and laugh so that their experience is more enjoyable.
You can find Kyla spending her free time with her 8 kids and family. She loves going to San Diego and Hawaii. Kyla also enjoys beaches, parks, and farmer’s markets; most of all she enjoys family time.
ANALI
DENTAL ASSISTANT
Anali has over 10 years of experience as a dental assistant. She enjoys making patients feel at ease when they come to our office. Anali loves working in the dental field and aspires to become a Dental Hygienist.
In her spare time, Anali bakes with her 2 daughters and attends baking events. She enjoys traveling with her family to new places and hopes that one day she will be able to visit the happiest place on earth, Disneyland .Fun fact about her; she loves penguins and Disney!
